Well, another graduation at Lake Land College. Another set of proud graduates moving on in the world; some to work on their Bachelors degree, some to work, some not sure yet. This situation is even more personal for me this year, with a daughter graduating with her BA and BS degrees and a niece graduating with her Masters in Library and Information Science. At the same time, the next group of students is reaching one milestone - graduating from high school - and many will be moving on to the next goal, whether it is additional education, employment, or both. And many of those who are already in the workforce will be looking for opportunities to get a little more knowledge to move to a better/different job and/or improve their lives.
The only constant in the world is change. As students we have come to know leave us, a new group arrives - wanting more education, a better job, personal growth. And it is our privilege in education to work with these students to help them accomplish their goals. Some of us work less directly with students than others - yet we take pride in their accomplishments, even if from a little more distance.
To our graduates - congratulations, and all the best to you in whatever lies ahead for you in life. Come back and let us know how you are getting along.
To our new students - welcome. We look forward to working with you as you move ahead with your education. You don't know us yet - but know that we are committed to helping you to accomplish your goals. Please let us know how we can help you.
And as my my daughter's Alma Mater says, " Don't follow. Pursue."
