An article in today's Chronicle of Higher Education online, conducted by the Educause Center for Applied Research, indicates that (by percentage of users doing certain online activities) approximately 94% of college students visit their college Libary's website once per week.
In the interest of full disclosure, 92% use text messaging daily and 90% use social networking sites daily.
But it's nice to have some less self-interested evidence that students still find libraries a useful destination, contrary to the loudly expressed opinions of some folks in the higher education realm. There are not studies, at least none that I have discovered so far, that measure what percentage of that latter group believe that all information is freely available on the Internet or that faculty are responsible for the moral decay of Western Civilization... ;-)
Happy 1st day of the semester, everyone!
